Parish Life
There’s always something going on at St. James!
Our worship is supported by our Liturgical Ministries Team, which includes our acolytes, incense bearers (“thurifers”), lay assistants, readers and intercessors. Anyone may participate and training is provided regularly. Our Choir rehearses and sings regularly and is open to all!
Children are cherished at St. James and their presence in our common life is a sign of God’s Kingdom among us. Energetic or quiet, they are very welcome here. Children’s Sunday School meets throughout the school year. We also provide Communion and Confirmation instruction. On many Sundays, children are invited to the altar steps for a short message and blessing from our priest.
St. James is a community of inquiring minds and discerning hearts. Our weekly Bible Study meets from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Thursday nights, at the Vicarage. Timely and exceptional Adult Christian Formation programs are offered throughout the year, as well as Inquirers’ Classes for adults wishing to be confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church.
Special events throughout the year include the Feast of All Souls and All Saints, the Patronal Feast of St. James of Jerusalem, the St. Nicholas Day Family Celebration, blessing of homes throughout the Epiphany Season, and the summertime Blessing of Bikes and Boards. Members also participate in monthly Cultural Outings to concerts, shows and museums.
We also host Twelve Step Recovery Groups, which form a very important part of our “extended family” at St. James:
A.A.: (“Serenity by the Sea”): Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
N.A.: Monday and Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
