You can place your reservation for the Celebration Luncheon here.

Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give to their church merely as a way to pay its bills. Rather, such congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church’s mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes.

Our congregation’s finance committee has selected the New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stewardship education emphasis this year. [click to continue…]

Have you ever found yourself questioning why you prefer to live life in ways that are different from others? Have you ever felt stuck in a job or career track that just wasn’t a fit but you had no real answers as to why? Have you ever been in a relationship where you find yourself frustrated because you and your partner just don’t seem to be on the same page even for seemingly simple decision-making?

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a personality assessment tool that can help you find answers to these questions and many more. The MBTI has its origins in the work of C. G. Jung, a Swiss physician and psychoanalyst who posited that we all have preferred ways to live our lives but without knowing the differences in the preferences, we are not only uninformed about our own preferences, we also tend to quickly form judgments about those who have preferences different from our own.

Whether you are in a life or career transition or just simply would like to learn more about yourself and others, sign up for our workshop on Saturday, September 24 from 1-4 pm.

Prior to the workshop, you will complete the Myers-Briggs questionnaire, it will be scored and you will receive your results on the day of the workshop. Join us for an exciting, fun and enlightening afternoon!

MBTI questionnaires are on the parish information table. Please answer all the questions on the inventory and return the form here by Sunday, September 18.

Join us on the Magnolia Boardwalk to bless bicycles and surfboards and to pray for the safety of everyone in our community during the summer season. Cookout on the church lawn following, with inexpensive dogs and drinks! Bring your friends! Bring your gear! Volunteers needed and welcome!

January 6 – February 11 February 24 – March 8

One of the biblical events remembered at Epiphany is the visit of the Three Magi to the home of the Holy Family, bringing gifts for the Christ Child.

In the spirit of the Magi, it is traditional for the parish priest to visit and bless homes during Epiphanytide. If you would like Father Chris to bless your home, please contact him at frchris@stjameslongbeach.org.

Thanksgiving Day worship at 10 a.m.

We look forward to spending time with family and friends on the Thanksgiving holiday. But the heart of Thanksgiving is the gratitude we offer to God for all the blessings big and small that we enjoy in this land of plenty. Why not start the day out in the best possible way – with worship in God’s house!

We are also inviting parishioners this coming Sunday, November 28, to bring a donation of non-perishable foods from their Thanksgiving pantry. These food gifts will be brought to the altar during the offertory and blessed with incense along with the money offerings and sacramental gifts of bread and wine.

I wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving!

Faithfully in Christ,
Father Chris +

The Collect for Thanksgiving Day

Almighty and gracious Father, we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labors of those who harvest them. Make us, we pray, faithful stewards of your great bounty, for the provision of our necessities and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Join other Long Beach families for a twilight tour of spectral Long Beach, visit a “haunted” mini-mansion and help judge the best pumpkin at the Pumpkin Blaze. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be given.

Our evening begins in the church with a short family service, with readings and prayers that commemorate God’s power over the forces of darkness. At 6:30, we walk to the Garden Columbarium where other Great Pumpkin Blaze participants join us for a story by candlelight. From there, we all board the bus for the rest of the tour, which ends at the Long Beach Landmarks Society, 151 West Penn Street. In cooperation with the Long Beach Landmarks Association. Refreshments will be served.

Saturday, October 30 from 6-9 pm. The cost of the tour is $15 per person, which defrays the cost of the bus service and other incidentals. Entries for carved pumpkins $5 per family. There is no charge if you are only coming to the church event.

RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST!!! DEADLINE OCTOBER 24 – you may call the parish (516-432-1080) or email your reservation to the church office:
office@stjameslongbeach.org.

Beginning in the 2nd week of September!
